The Good Life Experience 2016

September 23, 2016

It was big last year. But this year grew even bigger and better.

"The Good Life Experience" family festival in Hawarden/Northern Wales with its outdoor activities and forgotten crafts, returned in full shine with its hosts and founders: BBC broadcaster, singer, author and a songwriter Cerys Matthews with her husband music producer, ex-singer and songwriter Steve "Abbo" Abbott and William Gladstone's descendant, successful businessman and the owner of the festival's land Charlie Gladstone with his wife Event Organiser at The Good Life Experience, Caroline Gladstone.

Over the three days thousands of people could enjoy many outdoor activities such as archery,

wood working,

bow and arrow making,

 or knitting.

To see how pottery is made,

how blacksmith makes axes and many other things all around the site.

Music was everywhere. "DJ.78" and "Donna Somerset – Vintage Mobile Disco" played some swing, jazz, soul, disco, boogie and funk at the William Gladstone's tent and the main stage throughout the whole weekend and were keeping the mood up.

At the main stage the programme was quite exciting especially on Saturday when we had quite some names such as JEREMY VINE, BBC 2 broadcaster, an English presenter, and journalist,

BEN FOGLE adventurer, author, broadcaster and writer, best known for his programmes on BBC, ITV and Channel 5

MICHAEL MORPURGO who is an English author and poet best known for children's novels such as War Horse

Warming up started around 5pm when the SWING PATROL DANCE CLASS came out with THE SHIRT TAIL STOMPERS live band. The big tent was becoming too small for all those who wanted to see them and dance. Everyone aged 7 to 77 was on the floor, dancing like never before.

BOOKA BRASS BAND, Ireland's only New Orleans style Brass Band.

DIABEL CISSOKHO and his band playing some World Music

and then the finale and absolutely stunning performance by Romanian Brass band FANFARE CIOCARLIA.

The end of the evening was reserved for one of the UK's best DJ's, BBC 6 broadcaster and producer GILLES PETERSON with fantastically chosen Latin jazz and much more.

Speaker's corner was definitely a place not to be missed, especially Charlie Gladstone's "Tips for creative entrepreneurs"

and Cerys Mathews "in conversation" with British writer and the editor of Idler Tom Hodgkinson about where the idea about the festival comes from, and also hearing many other stories, poems and songs from Cerys.

Campfire cooking, vintage fairground rides, good beer, a cigar or good book.

Walk to the lake or a sight from an old castle.

Three beautiful days with lots of sunshine, smiles and happiness all around the site as well as magnificent nights lit by the full moon.

Everything about The Good Life Experience is unique and there is enough for everyone to enjoy over the three days. So much that I personally found it hard to catch-up with everything.

Very family friendly and as a good friend of mine J-J said: "This festival could be easily celebrated as a children's Independence Day", and I absolutely agree with him.

As soon as you come, your kids will be in a different world on their own, finding a friend or perhaps a new love and enjoying the outdoors away from everyday gadgets, rolling down hills, climbing trees, making stuff or simply frying sausages or marshmallows on the camp fire with a new friend.

I find it hard to describe everything in a few words so please click the link below that will take you to the full gallery from The Good Life Experience festival 2016.
